Society in general does not give lessons on how to examine our own privilege, so it’s up to us as humans to intentionally address that imbalance.
It’s also important to recognize that having privilege does not mean that an individual is immune to hardship, but it does mean that they may have an unearned benefit or advantage by the simple nature of their identity and can include race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, country of origin, language, and/or ability.
To make things even more complex, privilege isn’t a fixed concept, but is fluid depending on time, place and circumstances. Thankfully, we have Academy Wellbeing and Emotional Support Faculty member Andrew Hale on hand to help!
Closed Zoom Meeting, April 26th 10am Pacific Time.
Suitable for anyone who would like to understand the relativity of privilege and the individual experience, navigate how to overcome feelings of guilt or defensiveness when discussing privilege, and consider ways in which to equalize relationships.
While privilege is a tricky subject to talk about, and can spark misunderstanding, Andy will be here to help us .
In order to create a safe space, participation in this session will be by request only and it won't be recorded.
Spaces are limited so if you are a Diamond and would like to join, please email Claire school@grishastewart.com and reserve your place.
This meeting is additional support to coordinate with our various classes on inclusivity and equity for dog professionals with Katherina Alvarez and Kassidi Jones.
