Grisha never stops amazing me. BAT is a fantastic technique, not only because it works, but especially because it has this respectful and aware philosophy behind, which I consider that dogs relate to and respond to, maybe this is the “magic” behind? Definitely a big part of it. BAT 3.0 is certainly an evolution, not because it is better because it is still BAT, but because it feels more mature. I know that we will have more surprises from Grisha and BAT, I really am thankful for that.

This webinar refreshed my resiliency and responsiveness! Truly the best one yet in the whole academy, and I have been watching a lot of them lately. I have a renewed drive for dog training again, and felt that passion coming back as I was watching this webinar. I have been experiencing burnout lately, and frustration, imposter syndrome- so many things asking me if I am really making a difference or not in my career choice. I realized as I progressed through the webinar that I was feeling eager and excited to engage with my clients, and thinking of ways I could incorporate the BAT basic skills into everyday training so dogs (and their owners) learn the skills and have whole healthy families! I also work with mustangs, both on and off range. The skills I am learning with BAT in general, and especially 3.0 are so helpful for navigating this work. It is easy to become triggered, to become defensive, and that is not helpful in any kind of advocacy work. These are life skills, plain and simple. Applicable for any species or situation. Thanks Grisha for bringing this to dog training!

Grisha has done it again with BAT 3.0 As one of the Original OCB's BAT has continued to evolve into in my honest opinion one of the best methods for helping dogs learn without force or intimidation. BAT has been my go to for almost 13 years and am excited for the future evolution of BAT. My clients love BAT because of the freedom it provides their dogs. A client said to me today after a session that "this is a new way of thinking about aggression." He said for the first time since he has had this girl, she is not barking and lunging at other dogs. We are on session 3 so far so good. Thank you again Grisha for bringing BAT to the world and continuing to keep it fun and exciting for the dogs and clients we help.

BAT Helps Dogs Make Friends!

Do you dread your walks because your dog barks, growls, or even bites? Do you wish they could make healthy choices in social situations, so you didn't have to worry or be embarrassed? Do you want to know how to support your dog's well-being and security?

In 2009, I was a dog trainer whose heart dog (Peanut) barked at people, dogs, and lots of other things. I was mortified. None of the existing methods helped me support him enough, so I came up with one of my own, blending all the best parts of what already existed with my own insights and experience. Peanut lived a wonderful life with many new friends.

BAT and I have been empowering dogs and their people all around the world since then, and I'm happy to say it's helped over 200,000 dogs. In 2022, I updated BAT to 3.0, with more nuance and emphasis on relationship. BAT is a systematic way to help dogs connect to others with confidence and ease. It's informed by current understanding of trauma, attachment styles, neurobiology, affective neuroscience, clicker training, and a whole lot more.

In this webinar, you'll get an overview of how to use BAT for your own dog, no experience necessary. This is an introduction to a whole new way of thinking, so be prepared to want to learn more afterwards.

This is meant as an introduction to the technique for family dogs. It will give you an overview so you know whether it's a good fit for your situation and the relationship you want with your dog. Professional dog trainers are also invited to attend. If you're not a professional who already works with reactivity and aggression, then after this session, it would be helpful to work with a Certified BAT Instructor or at least someone with an experienced eye to do training scenarios. If that's not possible, we have a six-week course on BAT that will give you activities to do with your dog.

Webinar and student Q&A recorded online February, 2023.

  • Suitable for family dogs, professional trainers, behaviorists, shelter workers, and anyone looking to expand your knowledge and skills to support dogs.

  • Learn how to safely introduce your dog or puppy to new dogs, people, and situations.

  • BAT helps with reactivity of many kinds, including aggression, barking or whining in frustration, panicked escapes, or shutting down frozen. BAT is also useful to start out right with puppies!

  • Make your walks easier! Get an overview of the BAT Leash Skills including the new Leash Belay method. (For in-depth leash walking class, please see the Stop Pulling course.)

  • Learn how to respond if your dog barks or growls, and how your current way of reacting may be making things worse. We'll also direct you to other classes to learn even more for this part.

  • Learn how to care for your dog in a way that builds trust and promotes Secure Attachment.

  • Learn how to feel safe by improving your two-way communication skills.

  • This webinar and whole lot more is included with a Diamond Membership All Access Pass. For one low price per month, you get access to all of our emotionally enriching dog courses. See if Diamond is right for you.

About the Instructor

Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Author

Grisha Stewart MA, CPDT-KA, KPACTP

I'm a collaborative dog trainer, author, podcaster, international presenter, and keynote speaker based in Oregon, USA. My passion projects are grief tending, community singing, and woodturning. I enjoy developing empowering approaches to help dogs and people live in harmony.

I'm fascinated by animal behavior, somatic awareness, and psychology. I'm passionate about wholehearted living for all beings, including dogs with a history of aggression, frustration, or fear as well as puppies and my other favorite species: humans.

My Behavior Adjustment Training technique (BAT 2.0 book and the new BAT 3.0) is used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills. A conservative calculation is that well over 200,000 people have learned about BAT so far.

I have always loved teaching. I earned a Master's in mathematics and taught college courses, but I found my true calling in dog training. I have been teaching dog training and behavior since 2003. In 2010, I started traveling worldwide to teach dog trainers about BAT. In 2014 I developed BAT 2.0 and also started this online dog training and behavior school, the Grisha Stewart Academy which now has over 140 classes from my favorite emotionally intelligent dog and human behavior experts. I also co-host a podcast at The Lesson is Love.

As an outgoing introvert, I enjoy teaching at cooperative conferences and am so grateful to be able to offer classes about dogs online. I refresh my batteries by singing, expressing grief in community, and savoring life in the woods with my husband (Tom), Labrador (Joey), cat (Garbanzo aka "Adventure Kitty" and "Baby Panther"), and Little Brown Dog (Zuki).
