This was the most comprehensive 2 1/2 hours in all my years of attending (various) training seminars. I believe the techniques offered will provide significant improvements in the ability to manage unwanted walking behaviors without making it too difficult for the regular pet owners. I am excited to put them into practice and see what results I can get!

I just finished watching Grisha Stewart’s seminar “Effortless Dog Walking: New Innovations in BAT Leash Skills” and I am beyond excited to put what I learned into practice! I will be having rotator cuff surgery on 12/29 & my left (dominant) arm will be in a sling for the 1st 6 weeks after surgery. Rehab will take about 6 months total, so I will be at a distinct disadvantage with my 2 Bouviers for quite a while. I’m not going to give away the details because you should take the seminar yourselves. But I will say that this could be a game-changer if you: 🎯 Have a reactive dog 🎯 Have a dog that likes to chase wildlife 🎯 Have a dog that pulls hard 🎯 Have a dog that is much larger/stronger than you 🎯 Have weak hand/strength 🎯 Have poor balance I can see myself incorporating this technique with Service Dog clients in the future, which has me extra excited!

I loved the course, I learned quite a bit to help me with clients who run with their dogs, handicapped or disabled clients, and general pulling! It is so important to be able to get your reactive dogs out in the real world and learn how to handle life, but let's be honest- things can happen! Many of my reactive dog clients are hesitant to get out there at all because of already experiencing injuries when a trigger pops out from behind a tree or brush or appears around a blind corner, causing their dog to lunge or flee! These techniques will help build their confidence and get those dogs out there where they need to be! What I love, is Grisha's ability to apply skills from other areas to dog training. It opens us up to so many possibilities, if we are willing to be creative! Very motivating and encouraging.

I enjoyed it so much. Grisha is wonderful to listen to, pleasent and explains very well. As I listened I kept thinking of all the people that would benefit from this information that I have in class. It will enable them to walk their dogs and teach as they go. I feel like I am listening to someone that understands that we are all learning and not perfect. Wish I could afford the diamond membership. I could spend all day on her site. I have retired from teaching, having had 2 therapy dogs that I trained in school with me, my new career is helping and training others with their dogs. I wish I would have started years ago. I attended one of Grisha's workshops in person and I just loved her then.

When it caught my attention that Grisha was revamping her lead skills and looking for a focus group to try her new ideas on, I jumped at the chance to be involved. I am always looking to modify and improve my skills and admire others that do the same. I can’t give too much away at this point, but the new adaptations overcome one of the big issues of having a strong dog on a lead – it being a tug of war with the potential for rope burn! The skills also add comfort when managing the lead on any size of dog. Grisha has looked at the bigger picture and taken techniques outside of dog training, and adapted them. In the short time since learning the new skills they are already becoming part of my daily walks.

I don't know if my BAT- colleagues experience the same phenomenon in their reactive dog trainings: most of my client teams are composed of a medium size to big dog and a person that is challenged by their power, weight, and their fast reactions. Add to this that in the beginning of the training the dogs generally pull more than later on when the training is having its first effects. Basically, our human clients are experiencing the same anxiety and helplessness as our leash-reactive dogs do: they fear for their wellbeing. That is why I think that the effort-less leash skills are a valuable, practical and handy addition to making them feel more balanced and at ease. Thank you!

I work with clients to train their dogs to not pull on the leash, but it's a process and can take time. This innovative technique will allow my clients to safely walk their dogs while their dog is learning how to walk on a loose leash. I'm guessing they will continue to use these techniques, even when their dog doesn't pull as much. I also really like how it gives multiple options for different dogs with different types of pulling behaviors. It will give clients peace of mind, knowing they can keep themselves and their dogs safe on walks. Thank you Grisha!

"The Best Solution for a Dog Who Pulls On-Leash" -Bark Magazine

I couldn't stop smiling when I tested out my new "leash belay" techniques to better handle pulling dogs the first time.

I wrote the BAT book in 2010 and developed BAT 2.0 in 2014. Since then, I've come up with small-but-mighty tweaks, but the next big change didn't come until 2020. The leash belay is so effective that I’m just blown away. By managing the leash in a particular way, I can now use a pretty thin long line with a boisterous dog and not worry about rope burn or losing balance. The BAT skills were already great at helping with that, but this feels like a whole new level of ease. The leash belay technique is not completely effortless - because it takes some practice. But it’s so much easier on your body and your dog’s body, too.

This webinar explores new ways to *physically* handle the leash and gently, safely bring your dog to a stop, so loose leash training can be more effective, as well as ways to modify your own leash with bits of hardware to make the leash belay work. I recommend that you also watch Walk With Me for techniques on how to train the dog and the original BAT leash skills.

This session was recorded live online with audience Q&A.

As with all live and recorded courses on my site, you can sign up for this individually or get it as part of the all-inclusive Diamond membership. It's only $29.99/month for anyone who signs up before September. We'll never raise the rate on current members. (You can also cancel at any time, but then the rate lock also gets cancelled).

Recorded December 2020 with updates from a replay in May 2021.

  • Suitable for professional dog trainers as well as families with dogs.

  • Leash walking skills to allow for freedom while still maintaining safety and control.

  • I've focused most on the NEW strategies I've just developed to improve balance and prevent rope burn. Includes a brief review of the other BAT leash skills.

  • Bring your dog to a stop that's easy on your body and your dog's body, too.

  • We work on the human end of the leash here. For training the dog, check out Walk With Me.

  • See my process of experimenting to find the best options for leash belay, so you can really see why this works.

  • Recording of a live webinar broadcast.

  • Want even more? This is great preparation for the Stop Pulling! Great Big Loose Leash Walking Course.

  • Included with Diamond Membership (see below).

  • We also have a Library Pass which lets you stream this course and a lot of other pre recorded content. Find out more on the Library Pass Page.

Additional updates from the second live viewing further hone the technique.

I first saw the belay leash on the Ranch with Grisha - it seemed like it would work well with my Great Pyrenees who had his head on a swivel. This webinar and the leash handling webinar with Grisha and Mike added to my understanding of the mechanics. The belay leash with the roller carabiner is absolutely the best thing for for Fred, who now walks calmly on a loose and realizes there isn't an ax murdered around every corner.

Ever since I found BAT and Grisha´s Academy, I feel more confident while working with my dogs (all of them coming from profound trauma), as while helping my clients to help their dogs. This technique, or next level of BAT, is not only effort-less (a giant thing for a tiny person with big dogs) but also gives me the opportunity to understand better the dialogue between dogs and humans while walking together. Coming from the martial arts background, I’m constantly trying to be mindful of my movement, it is so wonderful that Grisha takes both ends of the leash into consideration, while bringing true positive tools into the table.

I have a pair of Great Pyrenees. I also completely wrecked my shoulder and will be rehabbing it for most of the next year. My older Pyr has lovely leash manners except when he sees a dog he wants to play with but he will listen to me and I'm not too worried about my ability to manage him even with a bum shoulder. My younger Pyr gets excited to explore and pulls like a freight train. I've been afraid to try to walk him since my injury. This course is just what I needed. I've started learning the leash handling with a belt pully system and when I'm confident the skills are well learned I'm going to be able to safely walk my giant freight train while we work on his leash manners. We'd been working on them but at this point he's had five months to forget everything he'd learned. Thank you for this course you just made a dog's life better.

Loved these training video's. I finally had time to catch up on so many videos here, but this one was so very useful and I will be using the Leash Belay with many of my clients! I was hoping for just what I learned here, I have a client with a VERY strong and very dog reactive dog. We have been doing BAT, but I wish I had looked at this sooner. This is going to be a go to for me going forward! Thank you as always, excellent!! Cheers, Jan
