Podcast: The Lesson is Love

Dogs have a lot to teach us about authentic connection and love, and so do our guests! This podcast explores universal kinship and the experience of dogs in our care with inspiring, big-hearted changemakers.

I have to confess...dogs used to be my favorite species, but the quest to understand behavior has led me to realize that I also really love humans!

We are more similar than we are different. We need belonging, safety, and satisfaction. And yet our unique experiences can teach aspects of love that we would never comprehend if we were all the same. Over and over, the lesson is Love.

I interview passionate community builders who express their love for humanity by sharing what they know about how to thrive. That includes songwriters, actors, authors, psychologists, sex coaches, activists, biologists, and more. I do have one restriction, though: every guest must have a dog, so we can geek out and tie things into dog behavior.

Life, in all of it's complexity and messiness, is an opportunity to learn about connecting to others on a being-to-being level. We are are all doing the best we can with the information we have. We learn by being vulnerable and honest, circling back to do better next time. Learning is in our DNA. We are all worthy of Love.

I’m talking big “L” Love, unconditional awareness of kinship that filters through every aspect of our human experience. The kind of love where we want every being to thrive, and do what we can to empower happiness and end suffering for all. The kind of love where we share our 'mistakes' so we can all learn.

Explore how each of us can dissolve barriers to authentic connection between people, dogs, and other beings. Wisdom weaves through people in ways we might not expect. We invite your curious mind to come play in this new space.

Podcast Hosts

Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Author

Grisha Stewart MA, CPDT-KA, KPACTP

I'm a collaborative dog trainer, author, podcaster, international presenter, and keynote speaker based in Oregon, USA. My passion projects are grief tending, community singing, and woodturning. I enjoy developing empowering approaches to help dogs and people live in harmony.

I'm fascinated by animal behavior, somatic awareness, and psychology. I'm passionate about wholehearted living for all beings, including dogs with a history of aggression, frustration, or fear as well as puppies and my other favorite species: humans.

My Behavior Adjustment Training technique (BAT 2.0 book and the new BAT 3.0) is used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills. A conservative calculation is that well over 200,000 people have learned about BAT so far.

I have always loved teaching. I earned a Master's in mathematics and taught college courses, but I found my true calling in dog training. I have been teaching dog training and behavior since 2003. In 2010, I started traveling worldwide to teach dog trainers about BAT. In 2014 I developed BAT 2.0 and also started this online dog training and behavior school, the Grisha Stewart Academy which now has over 140 classes from my favorite emotionally intelligent dog and human behavior experts. I also co-host a podcast at The Lesson is Love.

As an outgoing introvert, I enjoy teaching at cooperative conferences and am so grateful to be able to offer classes about dogs online. I refresh my batteries by singing, expressing grief in community, and savoring life in the woods with my husband (Tom), Labrador (Joey), cat (Garbanzo aka "Adventure Kitty" and "Baby Panther"), and Little Brown Dog (Zuki).

"How do we tame this status quo that lulls us into accepting the things that divide us and keeps us from our own holy longing for the mutuality of kinship--a sure and certain sense that we belong to each other?"
