Read LessIn this webinar, Andrew Hale brings his emotional experience lens to look at BAT (Behavior Adjustment Training) for dogs. A big part of the emotional experience is the feeling of safety and Andrew will introduce the Safety-First Protocol with a focus on social safety.
The Safety-First Protocol consists of three foundations of feeling safe: Processing, Engagement and Exits. Andrew will go through each of these and why they are important when helping dogs (and caregivers) navigate the world around them, especially the social environment. Andrew will also show how BAT follows these foundations, and why BAT is such a powerful approach when working with dogs who are socially sensitive. (Social sensitivity can show up as reactivity; aggression, flight, cowering, etc.)
As always, there are a lot of crossovers for our dogs safety needs and our own, and Andrew will touch on Physical, Emotional and Social safety. Supporting others to truly feel safe should be our primary goal, and that starts with understanding the building blocks of safety. Andrew we work through this, and show how we learn from others what THEIR version of safety is as part of the work we do.
