How Can I Teach a Group Class Online?

If you are a professional dog trainer, you might be wondering how to keep working in the middle of a pandemic. Or maybe you have a young dog and need some practical help with this challenging age. Watch as I teach a small online group class of "tweenage" adolescent dogs.

You’ll get a free download of my 150-page Ahimsa Dog Training manual; read it through or use it as a reference for quick consultation.

  • Four group classes, recorded live.

  • The puppies had different training backgrounds.

  • Jumping, up, shyness, general manners, resource guarding, barking, etc.

  • Walking skills using BAT and focus training.

  • Course material was tailored to the 3 students.

  • Included with Diamond Membership (see below).

Adolescence is a Time Where Anything Can Happen!

Fear periods, teenage brains, hormones, no wonder so many adolescents end up in the shelter. It's critical to keep training during this age.

  • Who Were the Dogs?

3 young intact male adolescents: Chief, a 6-month-old border collie (US); Cafe, a 5-month-old cattle dog (Mexico), and foster-dog Pisco, a 5-month-old bloodhound mix (Australia).

You'll also see some footage from before training started and mini-lessons to focus on the training skills.

  • Adaptability is Key!

These sessions were done in real life, so expect to see some challenges and on-the-spot problem solving.

Pro Trainers: 6 approved CPDT CEUs. Just be sure to complete the full course to get the certificate at the end. Reported April 1 and October 1.

  • Bonus Book & Community

Get a free copy of the Ahimsa Dog Training Manual with this course (150 pages). Downloadable in 3 different formats, so it should work in pretty much any eReader (ePub, Mobi, and PDF).

Course students are also eligible to be in my Facebook group to continue the conversation.

"Thank you for the Tween Course. Even though I have been training humans and their canines for years, I always learn some new techniques and I appreciate your time and knowledge."

Certified Professional Dog Trainer, Author

Grisha Stewart MA, CPDT-KA, KPACTP

I'm a dog trainer, author, and international speaker based in Oregon, USA. I enjoy developing creative, empowering approaches to dog socialization and everyday manners. My most recent development is the leash belay technique, which leverages physics to allow handlers to comfortably bring pulling dogs to a gentle stop.

I'm an animal behavior geek, passionate about wholehearted living for all beings, including humans and dogs with a history of aggression, frustration, or fear. My Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT 2.0) technique is now used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills. A conservative calculation is that well over 100,000 people have learned about BAT so far.

I have always loved teaching. I earned a Master's in mathematics and taught college courses, but I found my true calling in dog training. I have been teaching dog training and behavior since 2003, started traveling worldwide to teach dog trainers in 2010, and started an online dog training school in 2014. My partner and I currently live with Garbanzo (aka "Adventure Kitty" and "Baby Panther") and Zuki (the sweetheart of a dog pictured here).

This online course is unique in addressing the training needs of juvenile dogs (not baby puppies), illustrated by two young dogs. I especially liked Grisha's emphasis on teaching a small number of cues and skills well, rather than a lot of different tricks poorly. Her spot-on observations and guidance are delivered gently and in a collaborative fashion that is easy on the trainees (human and canine). I really enjoyed Chief's "before" videos, which are full of teaching pearls for real life challenges. My only two suggestions for future recorded class sessions are technical - fine-tune the videography and reduce distracting interruptions.
