SOLD OUT! But the Stirling workshop has spaces. :)

Stirling is the same workshop, in the afternoon of October 14, and it will also have Observer spots as well as Full Participants (the latter are almost sold out in Stirling, as well)..

Freedom, Safety, and Gentle Control

I developed my leash skills to allow people and dogs to walk in peace on longer leashes. These skills are essential for empowering dogs to have agency for the BAT 3.0 technique, my way of building resilience and social skills for puppies and dogs.

I'm excited to be teaching in person in Scotland! This practical leash skills workshop focuses on how to walk with a long line. It comes with two video seminars to watch beforehand: Intro to BAT 3.0 and Walk With Me, so when you register, you'll see those two course players in your Dashboard.

You'll also see a course player with information about what to bring to the workshop. The leash skills practice is without dogs, so we can go through all of the skills with patience, in safety.

BONUS: There will be an optional walking practice in Stirling after that workshop, with well-socialized dogs. All workshop participants from both sites are welcome to attend (about 5 pm - see your course instructions after registration for details). I will be walking between teams and giving tips, but the class is officially over, it's just something for fun. Please do not bring dogs who are reactive.

When: Saturday, 14 October. 9.30 am - noon + optional walk after at another location (in Stirling at 5 pm).
Location: Lothlorien Dog Services , Unit 6, Braehead Business Units, Braehead Rd, Linlithgow EH49 6EP, United Kingdom

  • This is essentially a full-day workshop, but we're using a hybrid approach and doing the theory by video. That way, you save time away from your animals at home. Watch the two video courses to prepare for the 2.5-hour in-person workshop.

  • All attending are Full Participants, getting hands on group coaching of the leash skills.

  • No student dogs are participating in the actual workshop. You can bring your dog to leave in the car if they will be comfortable, but we won't be working with dogs at all during the workshop. Please do not bring dogs who will have trouble with a public event, especially dogs who are reactive that you cannot manage well.

  • This workshop will also be offered in a similar format at 2.30 pm on the same day at Stirling Dog Behavioural Centre, except it will also have 80 Observer spots. I'll post more about that option on Sunday or Monday.

  • Diamond members get a 30% off coupon and CBATIs get 10% off for Early Bird - if you sign up by September 22. CBATI-KSAs may be able to attend free as an assistant. Check your email! Refunds for missed coupons will not be available, so please enter your coupon when you sign up.

Hybrid Class for Your Learning

This comprehensive event is basically a full-day workshop, but only the practical sections are in person. We're using technology to combine theory and practical hands-on skills.

  • In-Person Workshop

We'll be covering all of the details of exactly how to hold the leash to promote a sense of freedom while still maintaining safety and necessary control.

2.5 hours of instruction with some bio breaks. You'll also get two videos from my online Academy to watch in advance.

  • Video #1: Resilient, Responsive Social Skills: Intro to BAT 3.0 for Dog Reactivity

Learn about the latest version of Behavior Adjustment Training, and why these leash skills are so important!

1.5 hour video on the basics of BAT 3.0, plus a 30-minute Q&A that was recorded live.

  • Video #2: Walk With Me! Safety, Fun, and Freedom with Leash Training for You and Your Dog

This video explores all of the leash skills (except the leash belay) also goes through how I train dogs to walk politely on leash. This is meant to prepare you for the hands-on work. Full participants, be sure to watch this video in advance!
We won't be covering the dog training portion in the workshop.

    1.5 hour video.

Dog Trainer, Author, Singer-Songwriter

Grisha Stewart MA, CPDT-KA, KPACTP

I'm a collaborative dog trainer, author, international presenter, singer-songwriter, and keynote speaker of European ancestry (best guess based on DNA and some genealogy is Scotland, "England & Northwestern Europe," Wales, "Germanic Europe," Ireland, and Norway). I've been helping people and dogs professionally since 2003. My passion projects are grief tending, community singing, and woodturning.

I'm fascinated by animal behavior (including humans), somatic awareness, spirituality, psychology. My work is directed at wholehearted living for all beings, including dogs with a history of aggression, frustration, or fear as well as puppies and my other favorite species: humans.

My Behavior Adjustment Training (BAT 2.0 book and BAT 3.0) is used worldwide to help dogs gain confidence and social skills. Well over 200,000 people have learned about BAT so far.

Diane Redding and I co-host a podcast called The Lesson is Love.

As an outgoing introvert, I refresh my batteries by singing, expressing grief in community, and savoring life with my husband (Tom), Labrador (Joey), cat (Garbanzo aka "Adventure Kitty" and "Baby Panther"), and Little Brown Dog (Zuki). I identify as a queer (pansexual), neurodiverse, middle age, white, raised in poverty and now of middle class, and US citizen, spiritual non-Christian leaning toward neo-Druid (but raised in Christian culture). My pronouns are she/her. I am still wrestling with living on the stolen river watershed of the Siuslaw people, who are part of the CTCLUSI.

Cancellation Policy

This is an outdoor event and we expect it may rain, and won't be cancelling due to weather unless it's extreme.

Tickets are not available for cancellation, but they are transferrable if you contact us by October 2. If you haven't yet watched either of the videos, you can transfer your registration to someone else: please email us and share the email address and full name of the person who will be going in your place.

If you can't attend, we can swap you out for the on-demand video, Leash Belay for Dog Walking: Hands-On Practice Online.

Can't attend in person?

I have an online bundle that will also go through the leash skills with you, plus delve into how I teach loose leash walking. You can use the special code SCOTLAND2023 to save $20 on this bundle (code expires Oct 15).

This is the course that you need if you have a dog that pulls. I would like to show this to everyone who thinks that they need a halti, a prong or a martingale colar because their dog pulls. I got so much more out of it than just a simple and effective way to stop a dog pulling on walks. Lots of wonderful surprises, and one of them is the magic with the long leash so that you will never have to worry about entangling. Grisha has a lovingly professional style of teaching. I am so happy that I have discovered this course and I can't wait to do more by her. Thank you very much!
