Read MoreI first saw the belay leash on the Ranch with Grisha - it seemed like it would work well with my Great Pyrenees who had his head on a swivel. This webinar and the leash handling webinar with Grisha and Mike added to my understanding of the mechanics. The belay leash with the roller carabiner is absolutely the best thing for for Fred, who now walks calmly on a loose and realizes there isn't an ax murdered around every corner.

Read MoreI work with clients to train their dogs to not pull on the leash, but it's a process and can take time. This innovative technique will allow my clients to safely walk their dogs while their dog is learning how to walk on a loose leash. I'm guessing they will continue to use these techniques, even when their dog doesn't pull as much. I also really like how it gives multiple options for different dogs with different types of pulling behaviors. It will give clients peace of mind, knowing they can keep themselves and their dogs safe on walks. Thank you Grisha!

Read MoreWent for our first walk using the belay with a 23ft leash (very large, very fast dog and his used-to long-line length). My dog weighs almost the same as I do and for the first time, I was not afraid all the time that I would fall if he bolts suddenly. Still training my leash-handling-skills, but it makes it so much easier to practice and I feel more confident and able to keep us safe - thank you so much for this incredible idea! Your teaching is really giving my dog the freedom to just be a dog and not live on a work-or-off-to-bed-schedule <3

It was the first time I had tried the equipment so really had no idea how to start. Thank you so much for the videos and the demonstrations!!

Read MoreI have a reactive dog that until now I wouldn't consider attaching the leash to her back harness buckle, too much power behind her fear of other dogs. I am looking forward to using the belay while doing my BAT training. Just knowing that I can control her should she become reactive will allow me to maintain a relaxed state of mind while we walk and she explores her space.
Read LessLeash belaying is a new humane, dog-friendly technique that employs a pulley and brake to make it easier to walk dogs who pull. I've used it to transition off of devices like prong collars or head collars. I developed leash belaying from my rock climbing experience, and it's used to gently stop dogs and more easily maintain balance. It's an excellent way to make leash walking more accessible to people with low grip strength.
Note: This technique isn't about teaching the dog, it's a handling skill; it's meant to be done along with positive reinforcement training for polite walking, which you can find in my Stop Pulling masterclass or Walk With Me video. I highly recommend watching one of those as well as this webinar, because then you'll also know how to do the essential BAT leash handling skills and how to train the dog not to pull. Those don't need any special gear, beyond a 15-foot (5 meter) leash.
The Leash Belay webinar has two parts:
1. A video of a live session where students brought their gear joined me for an online practice session. You'll get to hear me coach the technique explained in different ways, which is super useful.
2. (Bonus) An intro to the leash belay in which I explain the technique to the world-renowned Ken Ramirez during an interview.
Recommended Gear: See gear list in the bullet points (you can get it after watching).
Recorded December, 2022.
Suitable for pet owners, trainers, behaviorists, shelter workers and anyone looking to expand your knowledge and skills to support dogs.
Gear List:
- Long leash (15 feet / 5 meters). We sell them on the site in two widths, 3/8 inch (for dogs under 35 pounds) and 1/2 inch.

Make walks fun again for yourself or your clients.
